Since 1979

Johann Hörl grew up as one of seven children on the "Streckau" mountain farm in Leogang. Unfortunately, both of his parents passed away at a very young age, so he took over the family farm at just 16 years old. In addition to his farming work, he converted the farm into a snack bar and later into an inn, which became very popular. After meeting his wife Maria, he decided to make his big dream—a guesthouse in the center of Leogang—a reality.
He purchased a plot of land and began building the "Hotel Leonhard."

And so it went on...

  • 1979 Construction begins on the Hotel St. Leonhard
  • 1981 the hotel opened at Christmas with 53 guest rooms
  • 1988 Construction of an indoor swimming pool and addition of 13 guest rooms

As is typical of a family-run business, the whole family pitches in. In 2008, Johann Hörl handed over management of the hotel to his daughter Maria. The hotel’s name was changed from “Hotel St. Leonhard” to “Hotel Leonhard.” The family business is now in its second generation and continues to be run with “great care.”
